I was commissioned by Dr. Terrence Schenold to create a representative avatar for use in slide decks, websites, social media, etc. Creating an avatar that tells information about the client and his philosophy of media by leveraging allusions to fantasy game designs, themes, and visual metaphors.
We decided on using motifs of the red mage job from the Final Fantasy franchise to convey the versatility game artists often rely on. Most of the inspiration for this avatar is grounded in an analogical relation between game artists at CCA and red mages in the Final Fantasy lore. The red mage thematics allows the client to express meanings indirectly about his ideas, game-making approaches, etc.
For the visual design of the avatar, I referenced red mage designs from the Final Fantasy franchise, taking key elements such as capes, ruffles, belts, swords, magic, and of course the color red. An important aspect of this design was my desire to keep it contemporary and personal. Looking to the client's personal style to influence the apparel such as the shoes, pants, and jacket.
