These two illustrations were part of an assigment in an illustration class with Gala Bent at Cornish College of the Arts. For this assigment we were given fairly open instructions, to find an issue or topic that illustration could bring light too. I chose to create two spot illutrations to be used with a Forbes article by Daphne Ewing-Chow about Barbados’ flying fish and the troubles surrounding them. I used the Barbados silver dollar coin as the main motif, not only because the flying fish is present on the coin, but becasue of the economic effect flying fish have on Barbados.
I used watercolor, colored pencil, and gouache for these two illustrations. I scanned and then placed them within the article.
